The grip plates are bakelite

The brass receiver bears the maker's markings to the left side and the number 2 to the right side amidst a stand of flags

It also has the correct 6 groove rifling used by Spencer on the Model 1865

so we believe that this was produced as a 7' x 12' flag

Just purchased at a recent military auction! This is a very nice "Pennsylvania" percussion hunting rifle, often referred to as a "Kentucky" rifle. The design developed in Pennsylvania, and then spread down the Ohio River Valley to Kentucky, where it was very popular. This is a nice well used example, with a lovely "Flame" figured full stock and patinated all brass mounts. The rifle features a 45 3 4 inch long
